The National Gold Medal Award
Honors communities throughout the United States that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management and innovative approaches to delivering superb park and recreation services with fiscally sound business practices.
Partner In Prevention
Is an organization or business that has committed the time and effort to educate themselves on how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. All volunteers are required to take the Darkness to Light Program to protect our children in our programs.
Operation TLC
Is the background screening process to make our community safe. We conduct a comprehensive national criminal background check on all volunteers before they can work with children at our department.
In 2018, our parks & rec department won numerous awards from the Georgia Recreation & Parks Association, including:

- Distinguished Professional Administration/Leadership
- Parks Maintenance/Outstanding Volunteer for Southwire Project Gift
We also won 10 district awards, including one for swim lessons and another for the Knox Park Community Garden!
