Carrollton Parks and Rec Sports Scholarship

We believe families should have the opportunity to enroll their children in the programs they love. To help support our community members, the Carrollton Parks and Rec Department provides a scholarship for eligible families. Sports Scholarship Policy

Eligible Sports:

  • Football
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Recreation Cheerleading
  • Track
  • Cross Country

Purpose

The Carrollton Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing equitable access to recreational programs for all children. This scholarship policy establishes guidelines for providing financial assistance to families who may face economic barriers.

Scholarship Period

  • Scholarships awarded are valid for the following fiscal year, running July 1 – June 30.

Scholarship Amount

  • Eligible families may receive full registration coverage for one eligible youth sport per child per fiscal year. 
  • Scholarship funds may be used until the annual amount is exhausted or the fiscal year ends, whichever occurs first.

Eligibility

A family may qualify for the scholarship if the following criteria are met:

  1. The family is a resident of the City of Carrollton
  2. The family meets any one of the following:
    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – Benefit award letter, EBT card, eligibility approval notice
    • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) – Cash assistance approval letter or benefits verification statement
    • Medicaid – Medicaid approval letter or active coverage confirmation notice
    • PeachCare for Kids – Enrollment approval letter showing income eligibility qualification
    • Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) – WIC eligibility letter or benefits verification documentation
    • Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program – Housing voucher award letter or lease assistance documentation

Proof of residency and eligibility must be submitted with the application when applicable.

Ineligible Uses

Scholarship funds cannot be used for:

  • Special service contract programs or programs offered by third-party vendors
  • Scholarships do not cover the cost of items, equipment, uniforms or materials or materials that will be retained by the participant after the program concludes

Administration

  • Scholarships are non-transferable and may only be used by the approved child.
  • Unused funds do not carry over to subsequent fiscal years.
  • Approval is subject to availability of funds.
  • The CPRD reserves the right to modify or discontinue the scholarship program at any time.
